Abstract

The increase of emissions from fuel causes environmental pollution and several health issues. In this experimental exploration Mahua methyl ester with SiO2 nano additive diesel blends characteristics of compression ignition (CI) engine were examined to reduce pollution which aligns with sustainable development goals like SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, and SDG 13: Climate Action. Based upon the previous literature, up to 20% mahua methyl ester fuel blends without nano additives are suitable for CI engines without disturbing the engine features. In this paper SiO2 nano additive dopped into the B40 (40% mahua biodiesel- diesel) blended at the rate of 50 ppm for developing the test fuels. The SiO2 nano additive blends improve the properties like viscosity, calorific value, and decrease the flash point and fire point. The observation of results, 40 MEOM + 50 ppm dopped fuels, improved the brake thermal efficiency (1%), the emissions like CO, HC, CO2 and smoke are slightly decreased and slightly increased NOx emissions. The combustion characteristics like maximum pressure rise, heat release rate is increased (1%) compared to other fuel combinations. The results are considered, a blend of 40 MEOM+ SiO2 50 ppm is the best blend ratio.
