Abstract

The growing demand of agricultural has brought critical issues to our environment due to the waste disposal. Extensive research has been carried out to reuse and retransformed these agricultural waste into other useful materials to address disposal issues and support environmental sustainability. This project examined the strength characteristic of concrete reinforced by sugarcane bagasse fibre with four different percentages (0%, 3%, 6%, and 8%). The concrete with 0% of fibre served as control. A total of 36 concrete cubes in dimension 150mmx150mmx150mm are cast for this study. Concrete strength is tested after 7th, 14th and 28th days of curing. Comparative study between the results obtained from control samples and sugarcane bagasse fibre reinforced concrete have been made. Generally, the sugarcane bagasse fibre reinforced concrete was unable to achieve the desired strength as the control samples shown. The addition of sugarcane bagasse fibre and the indirectly addition of sodium hydroxide has resulted in weakening the bonding between concrete mixes and hence, affecting the strength of concrete. Adverse results are more obvious with more fibre content added. However, several valid recommendations are made based on the in depth analysis of results to further improve the studies.
